The Start of Lent: Why do people Celebrate this Tradition?

February 9, Ash Wednesday, marked the beginning of the Lent season. The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and spans 40 weekdays and culminates during Holy Week. Holy Week includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and ends the Saturday before Easter. Originally, Lent was the time of preparation for those who were to be baptized.
