Scarves and hats and gloves, oh my!
All the winter staples are back, and then some. This winter fashion is all about
fur accents and chunky knits for both men and women.
"I love scarves and bubble coats because they are a warm staple for winter
that always looks cute," said Val Bellegarde, senior, East Meadow, N.Y.
Scarves are practical and stylish and aren't just for wearing outside. All types of
scarves are in, from the ones your grandmother knits for you to thin sheer
cotton scarves.
As for this season's coats, for both men and women it's all about fur accents. Fur lined hoods, coats, and sweatshirts will not only keep you warm in the cold winter months but to also keep you in style.
Also, for coats, keep your military style coats from last year and wear them again this season. Military and pea coats are a classic look that are always in style.
So what about from the waist down?
"I like Uggs for the comfort and leggings to keep warm under skirts," said Hannah McMahon, sophomore, Waltham, Mass.
Leggings are fashionable under both skirts and shorts, or even a long sweater.. They come in various lengths from just below the knee to just below the ankle. With a variety of patterns and colors available, they are very handy to have.
Another big fashion trend this winter for girls is skinny pants.
Skinny jeans, corduroys, and pant styles are available.
"I think skinny jeans are awesome because they look good with
flats and pumps and even tucked into boots," said Erica Vasaturo, junior, Staten
Island, N.Y.
As for keeping your toes warm, Uggs are still very popular along with slouchy leather boots, flat boots, and wedges. Compliment any boot with a pair of skinny jeans.
For men this winter it is all about layering. Tee shirts under button down shirts, with sweaters on top. This trend also works for women as well.
Hats are also back this winter ranging from pageboy's to fedora's. You can dress up or down with a hat, and still be in stylish.
The main colors for this season are grey, black, white, and red to add some brightness.
You can be at the height of fashion on campus this winter with basics that have been spruced up with added details such as fur and by layering your ensemble will complete your look and prepare you for the frosty fashion months ahead.
