The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team extended its Northeast conference streak of post-season appearances last weekend by shutting out Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State University.

"The girls stepped up and played well. It was the best weekend that they have played all season," said head coach Kim Banner.

The goal scored in the Quinnipiac game was by freshman Leigh Dogmanits with an assist from senior Allison Rojas in the 11th minute of the game.

Senior Lisa Nowakowski scored the lone goal in the Central Connecticut game on a header off a corner kick by junior Brittney Dupee. Reichelt made six saves in this game for her fifth shutout of the season.

"We needed to win and I thought the team played very well," said Banner. "If Central had beaten us they would have been the top seed and hosted the tournament."

Sacred Heart was in a three-way tie with Long Island University and Farleigh Dickinson University, but a held the tie-breaker over FDU and LIU to give them sole possession of third place.

Sacred Heart enters the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league. The team won four of its last five NEC games, all of them by shutout. The team finished the season with a 4-2-3 record in the conference.

The Pioneers are the #3 seed for the tournament and will have a rematch with #2 CCSU on Friday, November 9 at Monmouth University in the first round. The winner of that game will play either Long Island University or Monmouth for the championship and a spot in the NCAA playoffs.
